Hi,

I'm thrilled you guys like to use my material, but can please give a little credit?

The real reason for my visit to your site: I saw the news your governor signed the bike safety act into law this last week. I see some fantastic model legislation, especially how it criminalizes cyclist harassment. I'm curious how the discriminatory Far To the Right provision made it in, however -- was that language added as part of political compromise to ensure the passage of that act?

Thank you!

I also applaud Google for this initiative.

I tried getting directions for my commute last night. They wanted me to make an unprotected left turn onto Meadowbrook Road. I let them know that was a bad idea and told them about the alternative that I use.

One of the nice things about Google Maps is that they let you report problems. If you tell them you want to hear about the results, they will also update you on their fixes to your issue.

I love that Google did this and plan to improve it. Google gives two alternate routes when you get directions, and you should definitely look at the alternate routes. I tried getting directions for two different trips. One was the route I posted about here. The route I posted beats any of the three routes Google suggested. Google gave two good suggestions for the other trip.

I applaud Google for doing this and hope they take our feed back and improve it quickly.

What's wrong with reacquiring the right of way from the landowners? Rails to trails in Jackson may be more challenging but it's not dead. This is a critical tourism initiative for Jackson and we can't let it go without a fight.

I just read your article in the Wed. paper. I am sending it to my daughter who lives in Laramie, WY. She grew up here in Brandon, so will find it quite interesting. This summer she biked across the U.S. (coast to coast) with 2 other girls, promoting bike riding. It took them almost 4 months. They did not have a car or van accompany them...they carried tents, sleeping bags, tools, etc with them. They also carried a laptop with them, so were able to blog about their progress, problems, accomplishments, encounters, etc. Along the way, they spoke to different groups (boys and girls clubs, etc.) about the benefits of bike riding, taking care of your bike, gave demonstrations, answered questions, etc. Their website, with blogs and pictures of the trip, are still available, www.jointhecycle.com.

Wish all bike riders would wear bright yellow shirts or vests to make them more visible to drivers especially on the Natchez Trace.

Read with interest the article in today's Clarion-Ledger regarding riding bikes in Jackson. However, there was no mention of the danger in riding in dark clothes or the use of tail lights. My wife and I travel the Natchez Trace frequently on Saturdays, and many see riders in dark clothes, which makes it very difficult to see them especially when they are in the shade. Hope they will all start wearing the bright green vests like some do and/or use the tail lights.
